The Stock Trader’s Club (STC) was founded in 2006. The club was formed based on the idea that there should be a way for students to learn about investing and personal finance. Taking control of your finances is an important step to being independent, successful, and accumulating wealth. Our goal is to provide information to students which will help them understand the various financial instruments and will enable them to make informed investment decisions. Our organization focuses on teaching the “nuts and bolts” of investing and managing your money. Our guest speakers typically include: fundamental analysts, technical analysts, portfolio managers, and occasionally a hedge fund manager. We meet every week and try to have a guest speaker every other week.
We hold our meetings at Hanson Hall room 1-106. Meetings generally take place every Monday from 4:30-5:30pm. We always provide free food from great places around campus like Jimmy John's, Papa John's, Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers, Davanni's, Domino's, and more! On meeting days when we don't have a speaker scheduled we may organize a social event at a local restaraunt/bar to meet, eat, talk stocks, and watch a game (places like Big 10 and Buritto Loco).
Membership is not required to attend our meetings. However, there are a variety of member-only benefits, such as invitations to our social events outside of meetings, official STC T-Shirts, access to materials brought in by speakers, participation in our Stock Trader’s Club game, first access to limited seating events, and more.
To become a member, you must pay the membership dues of $15 per semester.
If you do not wish to pay membership dues, consider this worst case scenario: even if joining this club only helps your investing abilities by a measly 1% but you invest more than $2000 during you lifetime, then the membership has paid for itself. Membership sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?
Drop us an email at Trader@umn.edu to get on the mailing list for all the updates on upcoming events!
We look forward to seeing you!
